June 14th to June 15th, 2002

Glasgow, Loch Ossian, Ben Nevis

My plane touched down at Glasgow International airport the morning of the 14th.  Light to heavy rain that morning did not deter me from seeing what I could of Glasgow before the 12:40pm train to Corrour.  I dragged my water-resistant luggage behind me as I walked along the streets of Glasgow.

Graham met me at Corrour train station and together we dragged my luggage along a pebbled path  to Loch Ossian Youth Hostel (about a mile away).

We met up with Colin, Jen and Spruce on board the 8:51am Fort William train the next morning.  Knowing fully that we will have occasional showers, we were determined to climb Ben Nevis (1,343 meters) that day.  No clear view of the top of Ben Nevis was seen.  The last part of the climb was a bit traumatic for me.  My legs refused to cooperate and I panted from pure exhaustion.  As Graham joked later on, I looked like a fish out of water.  Alas, at the top of ol' Ben Nevis, clouds obstructed views beyond 50 feet.  I was quite disappointed.

My ScotRail train from Glasgow to Fort William.  Train cars split at Crianlarich.  The last two cars go to Fort William.  Corrour is about 50 minutes from Fort William.

Freshly caught trout.  After afternoon tea, we had Tea (dinner to the British folks).  These trout were part of our dinner.
